In depth: Windows Shared Hosting
A narrower choice than Linux hosting, and that's fine
Windows shared hosting exists for a specific, technical reason: some websites and applications are built on .NET or need MSSQL as a database, and those technologies run natively on Windows servers, not Linux ones. If that's genuinely your situation — an application built by a previous developer on .NET, or software that specifically requires it — Windows hosting isn't a compromise, it's the correct environment.
What we won't do is sell Windows hosting to a WordPress or standard PHP site "just in case." For that kind of site, our Linux shared hosting is genuinely the better fit — more mature ecosystem, generally lower cost, and it's what most website software actually expects to run on. We'll ask what your site is built on before recommending either.
If you're not sure whether your site needs .NET or MSSQL specifically, it probably doesn't — most business sites don't.
